Folk art portrait of a child in a wicker chair, o/c, unsigned. The child is wearing a green dress and green knitted shoes and is holding a cookie in one hand and a wicker fan in the other. The coral necklace was worn as a good luck charm and to keep illness away. The seashell on the floor is a curious addition. The painting is in very good condition, having been professionally conserved and relined. Circa 1840, American school.

A folk art portrait of a child holding a candy cane, o/c, unsigned. The child is wearing a white dress adorned with red ribbons, with bare feet, and is sitting on a colorful throw rug. The portrait is in very good condition, having been professionally conserved and relined. It has been attributed to William Jewett (1795-1873). Circa 1840, American school.

Painted Bucket Bench/Standing Shelves
Painted bucket bench/standing shelves. The bucket bench sports old Spanish brown paint and has very attractive cutouts on the top and the base. It is in very good condition and very sturdy. With 10” clearance between the shelves, it can be used as either a bookcase or a display case. 19th century, New York State.

Fan-Back Windsor Armchair - ex Charles Davis
Fan-Back Windsor armchair, ex Charles Davis. The chair has a curved crest rail with nine spindles intersected by a center rail that terminates in flattened curved handholds. The arms are supported by vase-turned balusters and short spindles. The wide saddle seat is supported by splayed legs with bold vase and ring turnings and tapered turned feet. The legs have side and medial stretcher supports with bulbous turnings. The underside has traces of green paint and a Davis inventory label, (F-161). The chair is in very good condition with an old refinish. Late 18th century, Mid-Atlantic or New England.
Provenance: The estate of Charles K. Davis, Jr., Nashville, TN, by descent from his father, Charles K. Davis of Fairfield, CT. Charles Krum Davis, Sr. (1889-1968), was chairman of the Remington Arms Company and a passionate early collector of Americana. With the help of a few important dealers, primarily Israel Sack, Davis assembled what has been called one of the most important private collections of early Americana. His home was profiled in the Magazine Antiques, January and March, 1941. Much of his collection ultimately went to Winterthur and other museums.

Chippendale slant-front desk, walnut. This desk sports a step-down interior with drawers and cubbies and a removable hidden compartment, over four graduated drawers resting on a bracket base. The desk is in very good condition, with minor old repairs and four inches of the backboard replaced. 18th century, New England.

18th Century Stoneware Crock
Early ovoid stoneware crock, 14” high. The crock is decorated in cobalt blue with a floral motif on both the front and back and with blue splotches around the ears. It is in good condition, with no cracks or chips, but with some staining and a small flake out of the floral decoration on one side. Late 18th century, probably New York.
