An unusual portrait of a boy and his dog, o/c, unsigned. The boy is wearing a dress and is pictured holding a fishing rod with a lure or a small fish at the end of the line. He is standing in front of a tree with a river and sailboats in the background. His dog is pictured biting down on the fishing line. Is he hoping to get the fish or is he just helping? The portrait is in very good condition, having been professionally conserved with very minor inpainting. The frame is custom made. Circa 1830-1840, New England.
