Folk Art Birdhouse

240172

Folk art birdhouse in the form of a lighthouse, tin and wood. This unusual piece sports 26 “apartments” for birds, and boasts beautiful punched tin decorations, including hearts on both ends. It is said to have been made for Captain Bernard O’Neil by the crew of the barque “Girard”, West Dennis, MA, circa 1850.

The birdhouse is in good condition, but with some denting and rusting. The spires on the left and right sides are missing and five of the six green wooden boards are replacements. Notwithstanding these defects, this birdhouse remains an exceptional one-of-a-kind piece of folk art that would be a terrific addition to any collection.
