Sheraton tiger maple work stand. The stand sports a hinged top over two flame-grained drawers with incised beading and pressed brass pulls, with lion mask bail handles to either side of the case and tapered turned legs. An unusual feature is that the top lifts to reveal a storage area that can also function as a secret hiding place for valuables. The stand retains an excellent old patina and is structurally sound, but with the expected wear and tear from age and usage. Early 19th century, Pennsylvania.
