250020C

Folk art landscape painting, o/c, unsigned. The painting shows men haying, along with a farmhouse and the Hudson River in the background. The scene portrayed is after Jasper Cropsey’s “American Harvesting”. Cropsey was an important landscape artist of the Hudson River School. In 1851, his painting of “American Harvesting”, now in the collection of the Indiana University Art Museum, was widely acclaimed and was soon copied as a lithograph by Currier and Ives and also painted by several other artists of the Hudson River School. This is one of those paintings. It is in very good condition, with craquelure. Circa 1851, Hudson River School.
