Hingham oval pantry box. The town of Hingham, MA was known from the 17th through the 19th centuries as “Bucket Town”, for its distinctive boxes, buckets and other woodenware. This box was made by the Reuben Hersey Toy and Box Shop, founded in 1776. It is stamped “SH” on the bottom, for Samuel Hersey, (1820-1909), Reuben Hersey's son. The box is in good condition, save for some paint wear and a few minor dings commensurate with its age and usage. 19th century, Hingham, Massachusetts.
