Portraits of Orsmus Taft, (1795-1880), and Margaret Smith Taft, (1801-?), oil on canvas, original frames, artist unknown. The Tafts were married in 1821 and had 11 children. Orsmus left the farm in 1812 and became a weaver. Subsequently, he became the first in New England to weave woolen cloth on a power loom. Later he was a station agent for the Providence-Worcester railroad. These portraits were painted circa 1830-1840 in Uxbridge, MA to satisfy a debt of the artist to Orsmus.
