Extremely rare Pilgrim century marriage chest, pine, with oak secondary wood on the drawer sides. The chest has its original paint decoration, including the date "1706" painted on the drawer front. The drawer hangs on side supports, an early feature. There is a 19th century replacement to the bottom board in the box, and to the bottom molding. The hinges are also replacements, and the feet are old but not original to the piece. The lid appears to be original, but has been moved and probably reshaped. The chest was most likely made in Middlesex County, MA.
