Village landscape, oil on canvas, signed “E. Gschmeidler, 1891”.
The painting features a man on horseback with a small village in the background. While the artist clearly had Germanic roots, the architecture of the village resembles that of the early Germanic communities in the Midwest. Indeed, the name “Gschmeidler” appears in census records in the upper Midwest.
The painting is in untouched condition, on its original stretchers with no inpainting visible under UV light.
